Computer Gaming Expert Addresses TECH Students

14Dec2010 - JT Staff Writer

Warren Longmire was a gamer even back when the Atari 2600 was the "state-of-the-art" system in every living room. Since his humble beginnings, and armed with his degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, he has worked with many of the companies that are at the cutting edge of digital animation and the gaming industry.

With the incentive of reaching a new generation of game creators, Mr. Longmire was available to give the students in the Technology/Web Design Enrichment a brief glimpse at what it takes to break into the digital gaming world. He discussed his work at Disney, Electronic Arts, Microsoft and most recently his position designing games for Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

U-City students were excited to hear that the skills they used during the Scratch programming unit can be used to build games and create digital animated stories. See the post below to learn more about our Scratch program. Finally, Mr. Longmire spoke about how to get started on a career in the gaming industry. He discussed the need to major in Computer Engineering over Computer Science, and to pick a school that has a well known program. We are sure he will be returning to discuss these opportunities in the future!!
